The Text Wrapping button helps you position the picture in relation to the text. When you’ve made your adjustments, click outside of the picture. Click and drag the bars to move the edge of the picture.

A black bar appears on each side of the picture, plus on each corner. To crop a picture, click the Crop button. Second, you won’t end up with a bloated file. Rather, you should use a program that is designed specifically for editing images and edit the images before inserting them in the document for two reasons. I strongly advise that you avoid editing your images in Word. ■ Caution Word provides you with a number of options for editing pictures you insert in your document. It provides a number of options for editing your picture, such as adjusting brightness, contrast, and color. When you click an image in Word, the Picture toolbar appears, as shown in Figure 3-12. Then select the place in your document where you want to insert the image and use the Ctrl+V keyboard shortcut to paste the picture into the document. It is also possible to insert a picture by copying it from a different program, such as a photo editing program. The image will appear at the current cursor position. When you find your image, select it and click Insert. Word accepts a wide variety of image types.įigure 3-11. Navigate through this dialog box to find the correct image. To insert an image, click Insert Picture From File to bring up the Insert Picture dialog box shown in Figure 3-11. And Word provides you with a number of options for formatting them perfectly. You can insert photographs and other images into a Word document in a few simple steps. Images are an important part of marketing brochures and newsletters. Once you have specified your options, click OK. For information on section breaks, see the sidebar “Taking Advantage of Word’s Sections Feature” earlier in this chapter. But, to take advantage of most of them, you must use section breaks in your document. In the Preview section, you have a number of choices in the Apply to drop-down box. You can also specify which pages will have the border.

Furthermore, they are generally not appropriate for professional documents. Decorative borders are only available if they were installed with Word. You can add decorative borders by clicking the Art drop-down box. The border will enclose the entire selected area with one clean rectangle. Also, you will see the border between lines of text.įor a cleaner look, apply the border at the paragraph level by selecting Paragraph in the Preview section.
This does not apply the border to spaces at the end of lines. First, you can opt to apply the shading at the text level by selecting Text in the Preview section. Word will apply borders in one of two ways. In the Borders and Shading Options dialog box, shown in Figure 3-9, you have a number of options for border spacing. To specify the distance between the text and border, click the Options button. By using this ability wisely, you can create borders that look three-dimensional.
You can repeat this for the remaining two borders. Then select a second border style and apply it to another. For varying borders, select a border style and apply it to one portion of the text in the Preview area. ■ Tip You’re not required to use the same border on all sides of selected text or paragraphs. Or, you can select from a preset in the Setting section. Finally, click in the Preview area to apply the border to specific sides of the selected text or paragraph.
